Overview

The Department of Paediatric Hematology and Oncology has been functional since April 2017 and has steadily grown into a dedicated centre providing care for children with blood disorders and cancers. Our team strives to offer compassionate, evidence-based treatment for a broad range of conditions including leukemias, lymphomas, solid tumors, thalassemic syndromes, hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders, aplastic anemia, nutritional and hemolytic anemias, primary immunodeficiencies, and inherited bone marrow failure syndromes.

We are privileged to serve children and families from Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and several states in North-East India, and are grateful for the trust placed in us. At present, we follow more than 1100 children with hemophilia and allied coagulopathies and nearly 450 children with transfusion dependent and non-transfusion dependent thalassemia and related hemoglobinopathies. Each year, we register around 200–210 new childhood cancer cases and continue long-term follow-up for over 500 survivors.

The department also has a bone marrow transplantation facility offering both autologous and allogeneic transplants for indications such as thalassemia, aplastic anemia, primary immune deficiencies, and selected malignancies. The unit is supported by dedicated inpatient and day-care services, transfusion and laboratory support, stem cell processing capability, and the involvement of a multidisciplinary clinical team.

Alongside clinical care, the department remains engaged in teaching, training and research activities with a focus on improving access and outcomes for children with complex hematological and oncological diseases. We are committed to working with humility, empathy, and scientific rigor, and to supporting every child and family throughout their journey.
